Heritage scored touchdowns on all five of its first-half possessions Thursday as it pulled away from Prosper Rock Hill to win the season opener for both teams.
Heritage had more than 600 yards of total offense in the 61-45 victory at FISD Memorial Stadium. Quarterback Easton Swetnam threw for 314 yards and six touchdowns as the Coyotes lit up the scoreboard.
Shawn Wara rushed 15 times for 145 yards and a touchdown for Heritage. Swetnam also rushed for more than 100 yards and Bryce Gilchrist had seven receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.
While the Heritage offense was rolling up big numbers in the first half, the Heritage defense turned Rock Hill over on downs once and also recovered a Rock Hill fumble. That helped the Coyotes jump to a 35-10 halftime lead.
Heritage plays again October 2nd at Saginaw.
